All adults must be registered to camp overnight with scouts.
Every scouting activity requires at least two registered adults - each meeting, hike, campout, troop-organized service project - so it is always helpful to have at least one parent registered with the troop.
Adults may be registered in one of three different roles -

The State of California requires all adults that volunteer in youth organizations to be AB506 certified.
The specific procedures required by Pacific Skyline Council can be found here: Council AB506 Page
In short, there are three parts to becoming AB506-certified with the Council:
When you have completed all three parts of AB506, you will receive a certificate from the Council that looks like this: Council Certificate
The online process will not allow the troop to approve your adult application until you have completed the YPT training (#2).
Once you have completed your YPT training and your adult application has been approved by the Chartered Org Rep - our liason to the leadership of Covenant Presbyterian - your application goes into a pending state while the BSA processes your background check. That could take a day, or it could take a week.
When your background check clears, your name will appear on the official Troop 14 Roster, and you will get an email telling you your registration is complete.
But not so fast! The AB506 process we covered in the previous section runs on a parallel track. You must get the Council AB506 Certificate mentioned above.
If you do not get the AB506 Certificate, in the near future - maybe a week, maybe a month - both you and the troop leadership will get a cease and desist notice from the Council telling you that you must stop your participation until you complete all parts of the AB506 process.
Once you make it this far, good news; it's once and done. You're good to join as many scouting units as you like within Pacific Skyline Council.
Take the online training associated with your role.
For ASMs and Committee members, you should complete the "Before the First Meeting" class segments for ASM and Committee roles on my.scouting.org.
This consists of 5 or 6 short videos about Scouting.
No additional training is expected for a Unit Scouter Reserve member.

Committee: Committee Training
To attend troop overnight outings, you must have Medical Form parts A & B on file. See BSA Medical Forms.
